Saudi Arabia recognizes public holidays, national holidays and local observances, many of which are based on Islamic religious traditions and culture.
Public holidays include Feast at the End of Ramadan, which is officially observed for ten days. Companies in the private sector allow between three and seven days of paid leave. The Feast at the End of Hajj is generally observed in the same manner as the End of Ramadan. Saudi National Day commemorates the Unification of the Kingdom.
National holidays include Day of Mourning for King Abdullah; Eid al-Fitr; Saudi National Day; Feast of Sacrifice and Eid al-Adha. Several national holidays are observed over a period of two to three days, depending on the employer. Observances include the Prophet’s Birthday, as well as the beginning and end of Ramadan.
