Eid al-Fitr 2027 and 2028 in Palestine

Eid al-Fitr is celebrated in Palestine with much religious fervour and general merriment. The national holiday comes on the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal, immediately following the holy month of Ramadan and month-long period of fasting, prayer and devotion. It is one of the most important of all Muslim commemorations.

In 2027, Eid al-Fitr falls on Tuesday 9 March. The holiday will be on Saturday 26 February in 2028.

In Palestine, Eid al-Fitr is a much anticipated holiday that is prepared for many days in advance by many. Wearing new clothes is a big part of Eid celebrations, so clothes hunting goes on throughout Ramadan. Houses will be decorated with lights and lanterns and more, and homes will be thoroughly cleaned out before Eid arrives.

On Eid itself, people attend prayer sessions in the early hours of the morning, but the rest of the day is spent celebrating and feasting. Many eat Mamoul or Kaik cookies, which are stuffed with things like dates, walnuts, or pistachios. The smell of these pastries can sometimes waft down the streets as people pass by local bakeries on Eid Al Fitr. Fisikh, a fried fish dish originating from Egypt, is also popular in Palestine for Eid these days.
